The Best of the New Year and Success in 2014!
The beginning of every New Year brings with it the opportunity and the excuse to make a new start. This is your year to create success in 2014. Although most people think about new beginnings related to changing jobs, often this fresh start can take place within an existing role.
Part of the exhilaration that accompanies every January is the optimism that starting over is possible and the belief we can create new and successful outcomes based on having learned from the mistakes of the past. This notion may be based on your own spirituality, desire for recovery, seeking of forgiveness and/or wish for self-improvement.
We have heard that “we all live under the same sky, but we don’t all have the same horizon”. Consider the time spent waiting for things to happen in life instead of actively seeking opportunities and working to reach our very own goals. Two people in the same circumstances may not always visualize the same future so as a result of individual thinking, we each achieve different goals.
Opportunity presents itself to all of us at least once in our lives, but most of us are too scared or lackadaisical to seize it when it almost smacks us in the face. People who work hard and hustle every day of their lives generally are given opportunity more than once. But even then, hard work isn’t always enough. You need skills, talents, intelligence and vision to see that opportunity and take it to the next level.
At other times we may become so focused on success that we may become blinded to those around us as we single mindedly go forward to reach our goals. Instead of building a solid foundation, we lunge forward grasping at anything that will further our goals. It makes no difference if our goals and dreams are personal or professional, whether they are simply to earn a living from what we do, or if they are lofty change-the-world goals.
To create success in 2014 – think about your –
- Skill – the ability to do something well, usually as a result of experience and training
- Talent – a natural ability for being good at a particular activity
- Vision – the ability to think about and plan for the future, using intelligence and imagination
- Work Ethic – the belief that hard work is important for developing someone’s moral character
- Opportunity- a chance to do something, or a situation in which it is easy to do something
I’ve included a YouTube video of an excellent and enjoyable example of someone that uses these attributes to the best of his ability.
Will Smith on Success and Work Ethic
Let’s make 2014 the year to focus on greeting each new opportunity by applying our individual skills, talents, vision and work ethic that maximizes our ability to create our success.
